As Mary was at one time Queen of both Scotland and France, and famously claimed to be the rightful monarch of England, the design features the Thistle of Scotland, the Rose of England and the Fleur De Lis of France, all set in two entwined hearts, surmounted by a Royal Crown. This unique shape is based on the famous Luckenbooth design that was made popular in Scotland in Mary's time.
